What I know about Die Form
Die Form is a French duo which consists of Philippe Fichot
(age 37 in 1996?) - responsible for composing, programming
and artwork - and Eliane P. (age 32 in 1996?) who does the
vocals. They have been living together in a flat in a small
village in France for over 12 years with their bulldog "Eros".
The sound of Die Form could be categorized as a mixture of
Electro, industrial and techno which is often dominated by
pulsating hypnotic machine-like beats and (since the last
releases) by the classical sacral-like vocals of Eliane P.
But the music is just one component of the multi-media artwork
of Die Form which confronts us also with provocative and contradictory
pictures and live performances. These live performances probably
added a lot to the image of Die Form as an industrial act
which is based in the S/M and fetish scene. Nowadays those
public appearances have become more tame - maybe one reason
for this is Philippe being fed up with the categorization
of Die Form as "sex industrial".
The name "Die Form" originates from a journal of
the same name which was issued in the 1920es in Germany and
was strongly connected to the Bauhaus arts and architecture
movement.
The name "Bain Total" first appeared on the album
Bain Total Cleaning Solution - Music for deaf & dumb persons"
of 1977.
The first single of Die Form Zoophilic Lolita/Tanz was released
in 1977 and a larger audience was reached with the debut lp
"Die Puppe" in 1982. Through the 1980s they worked
mostly with Normal Records and Danceteria.
Their change to the German Hyperium label on 21/1/93 led to
their position as one of the most prominent formations in
European electronic underground music. On this label they
produced their first professional video release (Phenomena
Of Visitation) and began their "Trilogy of Passions"
with release of Susperia de Profundis which was continued
by L'âme électrique, and then Duality.
Die Form's contract with Hyperium ended officially on 21/1/1998
after having troubles throughout their contract, most prominantly
those surrounded with the "Museum Of Ecstasy" box
set (a compilation of old works, which was never released).
This is mainly attributed to cover artwork which was destroyed
by the label. During this period over 75 percent of their
albums are sold in Germany, however this may have changed
with the Best Of release on the U.S. label Cleopatra, and
the changes caused by their new label.
They now find themselves on Apocalyptic Vision/Trinity, which
such bands as Clair Obscur, Mors Syphilitica, and London After
Midnight. Their first release, "Duality" was released
on Oct. 24th 1997. Since then they have also released "Histories,"
double cd of singles and unreleased work that spans the 80s
and 90s.
