Born in 1976, Dan Gresham aka Nu:Tone, started piano aged 8 and joined Jesus College choir in Cambridge a year later. He studied music at Durham University, and having secured a college radio show met a young John B. They shared broadcasts, established local clubnight 'Substance', and Dan went on to engineering studio sessions for John. All these good vibes led to a debut vinyl release with John's Beta imprint in 2001: ('Grand Central' / 'The Boss'). Nu:Tone also has releases on Chihuahua, Tangent, New ID, Soul:R and his own label 'Brand Nu'. Dan's remixes have also quickly become seriously in demand, following an anthemic d&b re-rub of the disco classic "Spread Love".
DJ support has been massive with the scenes major players taking a more-than keen interest in his sound; Fabio's sets almost always include the freshest Nu:Tone dubs these days.

'Spread Love' sees an official release in November; expect the 1st Nu:Tone single proper on Hospital in January 2004.

The sleepy town of Cambridge seems an unlikely place to be heralded as the future of drum & bass - but these sonic souljahs are Kings of the Jungle right now. With Hospital's own NU:TONE as their figurehead (his massive remix of Roni Size blowing up right now), the Cambridge collective have taken the scene by storm - with releases on a number of top labels - and across the board DJ support.
This EP features 4 exclusive tracks showcasing their individual styles. BELIEVE! MILLIE'S THEME is pure summer soul of the kind of quality we've come to expect from NU:TONE, with rolling subs and funk breaks underpinning an addictive rhodes hook. COMMIX switch things up with some dub styles on the flip - ROOTS TRAIN has been destroying soundsystems like the Upsetter on an angry drum mission. On the second slate TOGETHER has become one of the most talked about tunes on dub, with it's epic drop turning heads - and moving feet! Rounding things off in style COMMIX return with THE WURLY TUNE - a deeper excursion with haunting vintage keys and warm fx in the mix.
