Of gypsies, roses and angels
Whenever we hear a guitar in a Hungarian traditional, that we associate with Andalusian plateaus, or whenever a musette in a French chanson reminds us of the Russian tundra sounds, then we can assume that there must have been musicians, who once connected the one with the other. And the probability is high that these musicians were gypsies and for example Roma. Although this is rarely noticed, the culture of the Roma with all its directness and emotions has always been a messenger between the musical styles and currents in Europe. Frontiers, cultural borders, genre borders and generation borders are exceeded - and the medium for these excesses and the common denominator is the musical culture of the Roma.
At the end of 2001 the producer Stani Vana started to discover and continue these musical trespasses beyond the border.
The musicians he worked with over two years to shape the sound of !DelaDap do not only animate old traditions again use them for musical advancement: jazz, Pop in the best sense, traditional Eastern European sounds and fine grooves: !DelaDap playfully combine these with modern, electronic sounds.
This versatility shows up not only in the variety of beautiful songs, but also when e.g. drums are replaced by a metal can – the traditional Roma percussion instrument. One sound replaces the other, one idea overlaps another one - Cigani Ruzsa + Angelo, the debut album of !DelaDap sends us on a marvellous journey into the world of modern, urban Roma, which refer proudly and self-confidently to their roots.

The musicians and members of !DelaDap come from the Czech Repuplic, Slovakia and Hungary, most of them live in Vienna and constantly communte between these countries. They talk to each other in 5 different languages and thereby communicate about the one language they all got in common, their music.Who are !Dela Dap
The three main participants of !DelaDap are Prague born Stanislav Vana, Melinda Stoika and jazz pianist Tibor Barkoczy, whose roots lie in Budapest. For their strong and energetic live-performances the line-up is completed by Lazslo Kunu (guitar), Sándor Budai (Budapest; bass), Stefan Banyák (Bratislava; violin) and Endre Hoffmann (south Hungary; Drums).
Tibor Barkoczy contributed his versatile talents as arrangeur and pianist successfully to Louis Austen - his tremendously jazzy way of playing also makes him an asked-for solo pianist around the world. Before he came to Vienna many years ago, he studied at the Franz Liszt academy and at the Bela Bartok Jazz Academy and was engaged in Budapest at the Deryne Theatre.DelaDap also crosses generational borders and so it is not amazing that the marvelous voice, which lends soul to the songs of !DelaDap belongs to Melinda Stoika, Tibors daughter.
She is a versatile artist too - playing in innumerable jazz clubs since she was sixteen, producing with the Viennese Deep House Mafia and contributing her voice to the album of the Viennese producer Langoth.
!DelaDap allows her to mix all these talents and to interpret songs she wrote herself - in the beautiful and mysterious language of the Roma, the Romanese.

And finally Stani Vana, the head, the inventor of !DelaDap. He comes from Prague and made his way over physical borders like the iron curtain just like over many musical borders, from Trash-Punk to Indian Banghra. His vision of "contemporary music" links jazz and electronic music in an impressive way with the centuries old traditions of the Roma. Some friends about !Dela Dap
