Special People have special passions that they carry with them all their lives and which become apparent in all their work – passions that define their personality. Michael Rütten is one of these special persons, a very special character with a tremendous passion for music. It manifests and gets canalised in his work as a music-journalist (Jazzthing / Groove), DJ, producer (Soulpatrol), compiler and as organiser of parties.

That this kind of passion doesn't leave much time for anything besides his family (he has two daughters) seems quite understandable for such a soul-workaholic.At the age of six little Michael Rütten already sat fascinated in front of the radio, tape-recording the songs he liked. Since 1997 he is hosting a weekly show himself, which is now called: Soulsearching – The Compost Radio Show.

Michael lives for the music, the name "Soulsearching" and his name as a producer "Soulpatrol" tell everything about it: Always searching the up-to-date song, new or old which needs to be discovered, aired, carried on or be dropped. It all started with pirate radio, reviews and his first bookings as a DJ and peaked in big club nights in Frankfurt and Darmstadt, Soulpatrol remixes (see record history below), columns and being on tour as a DJ through all of Europe. „Soulsearching“ isn't his first Compilation, Michael Rütten already published four on Infracom and did Mix-CD's for Shadow /NYC, Compost Records, Worldwide, JOOP and many more. Today Mr Soulpatrol is the master of thousands of records.

But despite the manifoldness of musical styles Michael Rütten's sense for good, soulful music works as a uniting element and this is what makes this living Soulpatrol so very likeable. But listen yourself.

For Michael most important is the fact that his radio shows aren't DJ-mix shows but presented and moderated giving you good music, you won’t find at other radio stations, and providing the background information on the music as well. Quite a few of the songs on the Compost Radio Show compilation are yet unreleased and almost all of them are available on CD for the first time. Fact! Well, you know the score…
PS.:And please don’t call it NuJazz! For Michael Rütten it’s all about Soul, Jazz, Funk, Afrobeats, simply the good stuff ever since. Now it’s called HipHop, Housemusic, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Afrobeats...You dig?

Thats where all this is comin from...radio could & should sound like this.
