The story of The Fashion begins long before the release of their debut album in 2003. Singer Jakob Printzlau, guitarist Anders Find Axelsen and bassist Christian Lignell Bækholm have, with a variety of drummers, played together since 1995. The 3 first met in the underground music scene of their hometown Svendborg and, under various names they moved toward a musical style that incorporated influences from post punk and alternative rock that in the following years would encourage them to experiment further. With several self-made releases behind them and a sold live reputation, the band built up a solid fan base both domestically and internationally under the name Joyphilter from 1998-2001. When the bands then drummer Viggo Clausen chose to leave the quartet, the perfect substitute was found in the form of Jakob Ankær Johansen, formerly of hardcore band Lack. When the band invited Christoffer Griebel to join them on keyboards, everyone felt that effectively they had a new band and instead of developing Joyphilters repertoire, they should start from scratch. The name of the new band was The Fashion. During 2002, some months after the new band was formed, The Fashion recorded their first 3 numbers. The atmosphere was relaxed and confident and their music was drawing parallels with the work of bands such as Robocop Klaus and The Make Up. The songs captured the interest of indie label North Post records and a short time later the tracks were released in a limited run of 800 on a 3” CD (now a collectors item). The 3 numbers accidentally fell into the hands of major label BMG (now SonyBMG). The band signed a contract in December of the same year and started work on their first album early in 2003. In September 2003 the album “Rock Rock Kiss Kiss Combo” was released. It featured the hits “Lets Go Dancing”, and “Roller Disco Inferno” and gained The Fashion huge airplay across Danish radio as well as a P3 Gold nomination, MTV Fresh Pick of the Week and a staggeringly good review in Rolling Stone .At this time the band were performing across Europe but in 2004 they took the decision to take a break from touring in order to concentrate on their song writing. Shortly after the release of the debut album Christoffer Griebel was replaced by a permanent live musician and The Fashion were back to being a four-piece again. In the intervening period The Fashion worked on new tracks and although several international record labels made them firm contract offers, the band decided to wait until they were completely satisfied with their new material. By the start of 2006 The Fashion were ready with the broad outline of the new project and in summer of that year the band began work on their new album at Superstar Studios in Vesterbro, Copenhagen with producer Fridolin (Outlandish, Moi Caprice). The title of the resulting album is simply “The Fashion”. With renewed energy, and fresh musical input, it is a mature and focused but still hungry band that, over 3 years after their debut, are again ready to hit the nations stages with their combination of edge and great hooks that capture every audience fortunate enough to experience them.
