The Avett Brothers

Until 2000, the brothers Scott and Seth Avett were members of the rock band Nemo, which was based in Greenville. Before the band broke up, the two had started a side project together with band guitarist John Twomey. The Back Door Project spawned an album entitled The Avett Brothers has been published. They continued under this name after the end of Nemo, with bassist Bob Crawford replacing Twomey.

In the following years the trio released further albums every year and the three musicians were also active in other projects: Crawford with New Jersey Transient, Seth Avett solo under the name Darling and the brothers together live as Oh What a Nightmare.

They had their breakthrough as Avett Brothers with their 2007 album Emotionalism, with which they topped the Billboard Top Heatseekers Album Charts for the first time, No. 134 in the Billboard Top 200 and No. 13 on the Independent Artist Chart. Then they got a record deal with the major label Sony BMG / Columbia. In autumn 2009 her first album "I and Love and You" was released there. It was number one on the folk charts for three weeks and made it into the top 20 on the Billboard 200.

The Avett Brothers appeared at the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011 and played "Head Full of Doubt / Road Full of Promise" before performing their own version of "Maggie's Farm" with Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan.

"We're just going to keep writing songs and making our records, and whatever happens, that's how it comes," says Seth. "We do our best and try to have fun doing it."
