Leningrad Cowboys

On the occasion of its anniversary, a bizarre show band that parodies the clichés of the rock star world drives the total multimedia broadside: Two decades Leningrad cowboys celebrates the fourteen-strong group of Finns (plus dancers!) with the publication of the trilingual book "Pravda: The Truth About ..." (Huber-Verlag), a double CD with highlights plus unpublished pieces (release: 9/09) and their first extensive tour of Germany for years.

A good opportunity to see the highly entertaining, extravagant ensemble live on stage (trademark: pointed goblins and 50-centimeter puffed shoes), which the iconic director Aki Kaurismäki invented for his 1989 road movie "Leningrad Cowboys Go America". At 90-minute, bizarre best-of concerts, during which the virtuoso instrumentalists not only cover versions of well-known pop and rock songs in polka, country, mariachi, foxtrot or rock'n'roll variants, but also Russian folk songs offer, a good mood is guaranteed. Originally, the Leningrad Cowboys were only put together for Kaurismäki's cult film. But from the fictional formation, the basic structure of which is part of the punk rock band Sleepy Sleepers, which is known in Finland, a real group emerged. Because the Leningrad Cowboys were primarily active as music parodists from the beginning, it was a prerequisite that all members master their instruments (or several) very well. In this respect, their self-assessment "worst rock'n'roll band in the world" should by no means be taken seriously.

In addition to guitar, bass and drums, they use accordion, violin, clarinet, trumpet, tuba and ukulele. The arrangements are deliberately idiosyncratic. The band plays with the most varied of styles and tempos, which they often deliberately oppose the traditional way of playing the songs. As in her last studio production “Zombie's Paradise” (2006), she created humorous interpretations of well-known pieces such as “Manic Monday”, “Goldfinger”, “Fire”, “My Sharona” or “You're My Heart” in addition to her own compositions "You're My Soul".

With their special sound, an incomparable appearance, original stage decoration plus sensational appearances, they have created their own special position as a total work of art and also made a name for unforgettable shows. “The Leningrad Cowboys”, which honored Scandinavia's oldest brewery with two types of canned beer, can show a vodka of their name and who run a restaurant in Helsinki (www.ravintolazetor.fi), “belong” - according to Polo magazine, “to the best what can be found today in the fast-paced and mainstream-oriented music business!
